Sharon Rowen is a dynamic speaker who skillfully tackles the subject of gender equality with great clarity, transparency and humor.

She challenges audiences around the world to face the reality that not much has changed in 50 years. Women in all career fields still encounter an uneven playing field and are routinely marginalized and rejected as leaders.

From the headquarters of Verizon to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and Harvard Law School, audiences are responding to Sharon’s clarion call to address the cultural stereotype that women don’t have what it takes to be leaders in business or politics.

Sharon delivers keynote speeches, screenings of her award-winning film, Balancing the Scales, and other presentations.

Sharon Rowen, Award Winning Director

Sharon Rowen is both an Atlanta trial attorney and an award-winning filmmaker. Her film, Balancing the Scales, is a culmination of 20 years of interviewing women lawyers in the quest to expose the challenges facing women in the field of law.

“My belief in the law as a tool for social change began when I passed the bar in 1979, and my passion for gender equality started shortly thereafter when a judge ruled against me solely because he didn’t believe that women should practice law. I have committed my legal career to social justice and to the belief that we all should use our time to further human rights in whatever ways we can. I hope this film will ignite a national conversation about topics like breaking the glass ceiling, why our society does not think of women as leaders, and the impossible choices men and women are forced to make between their career and their caregiving responsibilities”.

What’s Next for this Award-Winning Film Maker?

Sharon remains committed to the journey of exploring and exposing the cultural stereotypes  that prevent women from being seen as leaders. While some progress has been made, particularly in the area of sexual harassment, the structure of business and the people currently in charge routinely hinder women from rising to leadership positions. Her new film, An Invisible Truth, (produced by R&K Productions and Vast Entertainment) explores gender stereotypes and the reason women still hold only a tiny percentage of leadership positions in the fields of tech, entertainment and politics. Is it really that “women don’t want it bad enough”? How uneven is the playing field?
